Y would a she leave him for someone else?

She hasn't filed because she doesn't know what she wants.You don't know the whole story so don't advise your friend to divorce or not to divorce. He needs to come to that conclusion on his own. In the mean time just be a shoulder for him to cry on and someone who will listen.
