How long can police detain a person on a stop (driving or not) ?

Deerfield Beach,Broward County Sheriff's Dept.(BSO) My friend and I were riding our bikes at night.The cop (and 2 more backup arrived immediately) made us both pull over and ordered us both to sit on the curb for over 20 minutes, lights full blast. Their excuse? My friend had no lights on his bike (I did), and we cut thru a shopping center parking lot @ 11pm. He took my objections over his lame, trivial reasons for pulling us over as an excuse to be a jack, I was threatened to be arrested for Obstruction and DUI on a bicycle. Before he let us go, he had to pat me down for weapons, but took stuff out of my pockets anyway without consent. Then let us go with no tickets.
