Does Vick's Vapor Rub really work? ASAP?

I can obviously just read the medical labeling on a bottle of the Vapo rub, but I'd like a personal opinion. I have a yucky cough and phlegm that I need blasted away pronto! Will the Vapor clear me up internally if just rubbed on the chest and under the nose?
